As of April 24, 2024, the Philippines has warmly received more than 2 million international tourists, marking a significant milestone in its tourism sector. The Department of Tourism (DOT) reported that out of these visitors, 94.21% are foreign tourists, while 5.79% are overseas Filipinos, totaling 2,010,522 arrivals. This figure reflects a notable 15.11% increase compared to the same period last year when arrivals stood at 1,746,630.
In March alone, the country saw a surge in international tourist arrivals, exceeding 1.2 million visitors. Among the top source markets for inbound tourism, South Korea leads with 27.19% of arrivals, followed by the United States with 15.71%, China with 6.49%, Japan with 6.13%, and Australia with 4.38%. Canada, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Germany also contribute significantly to the tourist influx.
The tourism sector’s positive trajectory is underscored by international tourism receipts reaching P157.62 billion from January to March 2024. Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco expressed optimism about the industry’s future, citing collaborative efforts, infrastructure investments, and improvements in connectivity as drivers for continued growth. The DOT has set a baseline target of 7.7 million international tourist arrivals for 2024, aiming to surpass the pre-pandemic level of 8.26 million inbound visitors in 2019.
